The day your child turns 18, you legally lose the right to their medical and financial information, even in an emergency. A flat-fee package, explained and executed with a real attorney, fixes that before move-in day.
Why Families Need This at 18, Not 25
Once your son or daughter turns 18, they are a legal adult, even if they are still living at home or about to move into a dorm. If they are in a car accident, get sick away at school, or simply need you to handle a financial matter on their behalf, a hospital or bank has no legal obligation to talk to you, their parent, without the right paperwork in place.
This catches families off guard every August. It is one of the most common gaps we see, and one of the easiest to fix ahead of time, while everyone is calm and has time to do it right.
One flat fee covers the documents, the attorney meeting, and execution in our office. If you have already had an initial consultation, that $250 is credited toward this package.

Why an Attorney Meeting Matters Here
These documents look simple, but they are not fill-in-the-blank paperwork. A Health Care Proxy names who can make medical decisions and under what circumstances. A Durable Power of Attorney can be written to take effect immediately or only if your student becomes incapacitated, and it needs to say which. Massachusetts has specific signing and witnessing requirements, and a document signed the wrong way can be challenged or refused at the exact moment your family needs it to work.
In our meeting, the attorney talks directly with your student, in plain language, about what they are signing and why it matters. Documents are signed, witnessed, and notarized on the spot.
